Blue Origin announces Glenn Stage 3 upper stage and new engine for New Glenn
Blue Origin revealed a third stage called GS3 and a new first-stage engine for its New Glenn rocket.
Blue Origin CEO Dave Limp announced a new third stage and a new first-stage engine for New Glenn at Up.Summit, an invite-only event at Kennedy Space Center. The company is still working towards the rocket's first flight following a late-May pad explosion.
The new upper stage, Glenn Stage 3 (GS3), is designed for missions that need direct injection to geostationary orbit and Earth-escape trajectories. Blue Origin said it can deliver up to 14 metric tons to GEO and 20 metric tons to TLI on the 9x4 vehicle, and up to 8 metric tons to GEO and 10 metric tons to TLI on the 7x2 vehicle.
GS3 uses the same fixed payload adapters and fairing as the two-stage vehicle. It sits within an interstage, which preserves the full fairing volume for customer payloads.
