Deutsche Telekom chief executive Tim Höttges has cast doubt on SpaceX's plans to make Starlink Mobile a major U.S. carrier. On an earnings call, he said he takes SpaceX "super serious" but that it would cost at least $200 billion.

Höttges said Elon Musk has bought 76 megahertz of spectrum, while T-Mobile, owned by Deutsche Telekom, has 400. Buying the rest, he said, would need "triple-digit billions".

On network build, he said Deutsche Telekom has 85,000 towers and that SpaceX could rent towers instead. He put that at another $20 billion to $30 billion.
