NRO Cyber Protection Office Has 600-Plus Staff, $250 Million Budget
The National Reconnaissance Office's Cyber Protection Office has 600-plus staff and a $250 million annual budget, an official told CyberSat.

RESTON, Va. The new Cyber Protection Office at the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) has a staff of 600-plus and an annual budget of $250 million, NRO's Lt. Col. Luke Shibilski told CyberSat attendees on Tuesday 3 November. The NRO is the agency that builds and operates the nation's spy satellites.
The initial stand-up of the office was announced at last year's CyberSat. Shibilski said NRO leadership integrated its cyber operations and security functions into a single office, stating it was "one team, one mission, and one standard." He added that operations and security policies had been managed separately for too long, and that adversaries look for gaps between policy and operations.
Shibilski described the office as a round-the-clock mission organisation, with military personnel, civilian government employees, and contractors working side by side.
